The enclosed clipping speaks for itself, a romance ending in a shameful tragedy. The Chicago papers say that she became a Catholic before her wedding, that the couple is still in jail, that deep investigation is going on in connection with the poisoning by arsenic, and that Dr. Austin O'Malley's condition is about the same in St. Agnes Hospital. George Clarke said that O'Malley's lower limbs are absolutely paralyzed. Fitte was with Mr. and Mrs. Paradis last evening. :: XI-2-e A.L.S. 2pp.

He just learned that the Travelers will be home next Saturday. A great reception was given Father General Gilbert Francois by the Poles of Chicago last evening. They must be on the way to Fort Wayne. Edwards has been discreet about Robert Sweeny's marriage. All capitulants are here Father Frederick Linneborn C.S.C. and Father Daniel J. Spillare C.S.C. being the last to materialize. The General Chapter opens tomorrow. Father Andrew Morrissey, C.S.C. overheated himself going to St. Mary's and returning; Father General Gilbert Francois was excited and discouraged over it. Many changes took place. Father Hennessey goes to Portland; Father William McNamee to Austin; Father Bernard Ill to Cincinnati; Father James Ready to Watertown. Father August Goupille is booked for Cincinnati as chaplain of nuns; he is wild and furious and intends to appeal to the Superior General. A Belgian Dominican of Somerset is preaching their retreat. In spite of his French accent he seems to be a success owing to his piety. Fitte has been requested to hold the Chapter during the retreat.
