 Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending Hudson her address for the next two months. He should not let her name appear at the head of the story in the Ave Maria as it will get her into trouble with Cardinal Manning. If she had been allowed to publish it in England she could have gotten any price for it, but she owes it to the United States to make this sacrifice to their feelings. Father Denis has been taken to Rome and made a great gun in the order, much to his despair. His people tried to keep him by a...

She was delighted with Hudson's notice of her book, "Louise Lateau" in the Ave Maria. She suggests a contrast between the work of her sister and that of Rohling; Rohling's work is for unbelievers and for men of science, while her sister's work is for those who have faith. Scope and Contents Frances Howe knows that Hudson's column is crowded but the enclosed translation is for one of the nuns. The nun asked Miss Howe to ask Hudson to put it in. The nun wants it to appear on the festival of St. Vincent as she was making some kind of a novena to that saint and promised him that she would make him more widely known. If Hudson can find room for the nun's ex voto, he need not mention whence it comes as nuns desire little publicity. Rose will reply to his letter and Frances Howe...

Scope and Contents He cannot express too much his recognition and esteem for Brownson's service to the Catholic social cause. Brownson will command only two or three hundred intelligent and zealous readers and will form with them a sacred battalion capable of doing good in combatting protestantism and materialism. Protestantism rose from the renaissance of paganism and from the independence of the state in regard to the church. It is necessar to disengage the true doctrine in theology, in philosophy, in...

He encloses a few poems that Hudson may use if he wishes, for he is always glad to aid in furthering the holy cause for which the Ave Maria has been established.  Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents Hudson's letter to her was satisfactory. She will be pleased to receive the Ave Maria, to indicate the choice of subject if Hudson wishes to have another manuscript from her. Scope and Contents The manuscript on Louise Lateau is being written by Frances Howe .
