Scope and Contents

Ebner tells Hudson to use the items from this letter if edifying enough for the Catholic readers of the Ave Maria. His name is not be subscribed to the letter, nor does he want the letter published as he gives it, but wants Hudson to transcribe it and then publish it in his own words. Fr. Ebner will gladly give more items about the Indian Mission. Two full-blooded Indians baptized several years ago were married by Rt. Rev. Abbot Martin Marty, O.S.B. The couple received their first Communion during the same High Mass. Both the Indians and the whites flocked to the ceremony as it was the first time that an Indian marriage was solemnized according to the rites of the church. The Agent, Major James McLaughlin and his wife were also present. Abbot Marty explained publicly the ceremony of Matrimony both in the English and Sioux tongue, and hoped that in the future all Indian marriages will be performed in a Christian manner. There is another scheduled in a week. The happiness of all soon ended when Fr. Abbot departed for Standing Rock, North Dakota, but he will be long remembered for the good he has done during his three weeks there. :: X-2-d A.L.S. crown 3pp. 8vo.
