Howe, Frances R., Chesterton, Indiana, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 July 15

 Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d

Scope and Contents

Miss Howe reminds Hudson of a statement she made previously about one of her teachers who was English by birth and of her younger sister who still remains in England and writes for the English Catholic press. One of her productions is entitled "Aubrey Court" and as yet she had not found a suitable place to publish it. So Miss Howe wrote to the sister, Miss Amy Marshall, suggesting that she have it published in the Ave Maria. In her reply to Miss Howe she states that she would like to have Hudson examine the skeleton of the manuscript and if he likes it she will make it as Catholic as possible. Miss Marshall's style is good and is free from the commonplace and the high flown expressions. Miss Howe told Miss Marshall that Hudson would be both just and prompt in his remuneration. She tells Hudson that if he wishes to see "Aubrey Court" as she saw it, she will ask to have it sent to him. Miss Howe says that her sister, Rose, has sent "A Visit to Camaldoli" which Hudson should have by now. Miss Howe tells of hearing from Father Aegidius who mentions often how Hudson's letters help him in his loneliness. Father Julian Benoit obtained permission from the Bishop to have Mass in their chapel once a month. She asks that they be remembered to Father Granger. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 5pp. crown 8vo.
