Egan just returned from a business trip to Washington, where he saw James Alphonsus McMaster's daughter. McMaster he fears is dying and everything falls on Egan. Egan feels a sense of deep personal loss. Where can Joseph A. Lyons' like be found again? What a vacuum he leaves. Their furniture has gone. Egan will start next Sunday night. Katharine Egan will follow later. Herman Ridder is furious. Edwards did his best to make an arrangement between them but under the circumstances Egan could not write for him. Egan can not understand what he has done to deserve so much affection from Hudson. It is a disappointment to Egan that he can not be with Hudson on the Assumption. The printers who are doing a new book which Egan translated, in order to pay his debts, could not do without him. Egan believes the "Freeman's Journal" will be sold today. Austin E. Egan has reason to dislike the prominence given to the minims at Notre Dame, perhaps Father Walsh told Hudson of the trouble Egan had in placing a man with a Notre Dame diploma because of the minims.
