Egan, Maurice Francis, Brooklyn, New York, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1888 July 14
Scope and Contents
Egan has given up all interest in the "Freeman's Journal ." John A. McMaster can now do what he pleases with it. Egan will probably lose all he has put into the paper. But Phony will probably get some thousands for himself. Egan finds himself besieged with requests not to leave New York. James F. Edwards has been driving about a great deal. He received a bust of Archbishop Hughes and a letter of Cardinal McCloskey. Edwards is the most zealous, energetic, and single-hearted man. Egan is anxious that Hudson arrange a plan for him, so that he will be able to say how much Hudson expects of him in '88-'89. Egan copyrighted "A Chat about Books" when he left the "Catholic World," and asks about utilizing it. Egan hears from Father Walsh that Hudson has a capable assistant inJohn F. Fearnley Egan will be with Hudson on the 15th to prospect about a house. Hudson will have no reason to regret Egan's coming. If Egan has seen the best of New York, that will make him appreciate Notre Dame even more. :: X-3-g A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
