Miss Schwab wants him to go to Loretto with her, but at present he is in dread of chills. He asks to be remembered to Mr. Onahan. He hopes Mr. Nester has a worthy wife. The Austin O'Malley affair seems to have ended; he is improving and will return to Notre Dame at Christimas. He is glad to know that Edwards feels benefited by the baths. It will be interesting to see the pamphlets of which Edwards speaks. It was cool all through retreat. Several changes were made. Father James Ready is replaced by Father Andrew Salmon. The dome is being renovated. Father PeterPaul Cooney seems to be very feeble. He often wishes he could see Father Van Dyke and the others. The farmers are clamoring for rain. Father Fitte is expected home at the end of the month. Father is up again but his mind is very feeble. To be plain, Hudson discredited the report of Edwards' return to South Bend. He sent him some things to read and wonders what he can do to make Edwards happy. He was glad to hear that Edwards is daily gaining strength. Father Smith's appointment is one of the best things Father John W. Cavanaugh, C.S.C. has done; it offsets many mistakes of inexperience. The plastering on the new hall began today. There was trouble securing workmen as usual. Bishop Camillus Paul Maes has been very ill, but is now better. Mr. William J.
