Hudson, C.S.C. Father Daniel E., Notre Dame, Indiana to James F. Edwards, 1905 May 23
Scope and Contents
Edwards' two letters received. Bishop Edward O'Dea and one of his priests are at Notre Dame today on their trip to Rome. Father Andrew Morrissey, C.S.C. is in Rochester; Father John A. Zahm C.S.C. is still absent. He was prevented from attending the functions at Rochester because of a book he is getting out. Father Peter Paul Cooney, C.S.C. is no more. At his funeral Mass a very nice sermon was preached by Father James French, C.S.C. Mr. Fish's health demanded a longer visit and they have not returned. He fears Bishop John Lancaster Spalding will never leave the hospital in Peoria alone. It is too bad Edwards missed Dom Gasquet, but he is glad Edwards saw Dom Birt. Archbishop Alexander Christie was there for a few days. A change will probably be made at Columbia University next year; too much of an athletic spirit, he thinks. They say that Father John Thilman intends to leave the community. :: XI-2-h A.L.S. 3pp.
