Scope and Contents Sister sends a tale for notice, which was written by an Irish Sister of Mercy, together with a volume of Sister's verses. Scope and Contents Would Hudson like a note from Knock now and then for the Ave Maria? Knock is not yet authorized by the Church as a place of devotion but they hope on the return of their archbishop from Rome some approbation may be given. Their convent is now quite established with special devotions to the holy souls and daily Mass and frequent Benediction in the Chapel which is only a literal log house. The cures are too numerous for record but she mentions one that is well authenticated, that of...

Scope and Contents She sends Hudson the book "Jews and Jerusalem" noticed in the Ave Maria on p. 476. It is an old edition but the only copy she can get. They are now publishing the 8th edition and if Hudson will write about arrangements he has made she will put it in.  Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is constantly getting letters from parties wanting to subscribe to the Ave Maria. Though she seriously disapproves of the ridicule on the Irish and Irish clergy in the "Battle of Criminaia?" and of Miss Howe's different style of writing of the awful mystery at Bois de Hrine ? the family should be commended for their desire to shield Denise ? from curiosity and from religious curiosity. Her confessor should not be accused of interested motives. Hudson will be offended at Sister...

Cusack, Sister Mary Francis Clare, Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1877 May 28

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She will do as Hudson rules about the Ave Maria. She is very much obliged to Hudson for putting in the Pope's letter. She thinks she has the length and breadth and some of the prejudice. It began with poor Dr. Orestes Brownson's petty jealousy at the large circulation of the "Nuns Advice." She has had letters from Protestant heads of families — perfect strangers — saying the good it had done and it ended as before — in a "clique", who fancy they are all Americans. If they are persons...

She sends Hudson one of her works. She sees Hudson noticed her Life of Daniel O'Connell ?. The enclosed was written by a priest of his diocese. She was at first unwilling to undertake the work having so much on hand but she could not refuse the "Primate of all Ireland" and so many of the clergy. When she came to know more of his life, she found it was one of extraordinary and supernatural sanctity and almost too great for her to touch. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo.

Sister Clare is sure Hudson will find space in the Ave Maria for the letter of His Eminence Paul Cardinal Cullen. If she can lay her hands on the Tablet review, she will enclose it. :: X-2-e A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo.

Sister desires to circulate Archbishop Thomas William Croke 's letter. If she ever had any doubt of Knock, the persecution she has been subject to since Bishop John McEvilly authorized her to build this convent would convince her that the work was from God. She hopes to begin to build very soon and trusts that Perché will send a little help. :: VI-3-d A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo.

In the 9 years they have lived here, she has endeavored in vain to find a person willing to serve in the capacity of out-door sister. She has asked and begged assistance, but to no avail, since the work is so laborious. The bearer, Sister M. Joseph has laboured without intermission those years and is beginning to feel its fatigue. She goes every morning to market through cold and wet, endeavoring...
