Sister thanks Hudson for copies of "Mad Penitent of Todi" and asks him to thank Anna Hanson Dorsey for the souvenirs she sent. Father Matthew Russell, S.J., is critical of "Mad Penitent of Todi" in his journal. In Sister's opinion no Irish or English Catholic periodical equals the Ave Maria. They are expecting a cholera epidemic which will ravage Lisbon because the drainage is terrible. The Portuguese say there is no remedy but they are too inert. There is a wave of suicides among young men and women and the journals have agreed not to publish these accounts because it only increases the morbid mania. Sister requests permission to translate Father John Zahm 's article "What the Church Has Done For Science" for Il Rosario, an Italian publication.
