If he had been home he would have thanked Hudson sooner for his letter and money in payment for his sonnet, "Cui Bono". As soon as he writes an acceptable article he will send it to the Ave Maria. Egan encloses the sonnet, "The Heart Immaculate". He has just finished a memoir of Maurice de Guirin. He finds that the older he gets the harder it is to write. He is about to do Louis Veuillot. He sends a sonnet to the Ave Maria with the request that the payment for the poem, or the poem itself if it is not used, be sent to his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania address. He did not mean to imply that his anonymously published book was objectionable but that it simply professed a negative attitude toward the Church. Egan has given the cut to the firm which does the work of The Century Company. Mr. Gill is editor of the Catholic World. He was Egan's candidate and won. Egan asks Hudson for a picturesque account of Notre Dame, which he can submit to the editor of The Manhattan, who will publish an article on Notre Dame.
