Hardenburgh thanks Hudson for sending him the Scholastic Almanac. He is now the credit manager at the store; his father is in bad health and is anxious for him to take over the business. Hardenbergh asks Hudson to address his letter to Charles Warren Stoddard congratulating him on his appointment to the Catholic University of America. Hudson has no doubt heard of Hardenbergh's father's death. The baby is a great comfort to Hardenbergh's mother who is visiting them. As the last diocesan synod a certain sum was specified for each church in the diocese to be paid to the bishop as cathedraticum. Bishop John Hughes will remain silent on this matter no longer and has asked Harley to send to each clergyman the account as it stands in the books.
