Ryder encloses a sonnet. He came here by way of Dr. Wood, the great American Condenser of the New York Sun. Wood was the editor of the Chronicle. Scope and Contents Muir does not like English writers and makes comments on works by a number of them. She has seen that poet of the Sierras going the rounds. Morality is unnecessary in poetry but when a man with partners of assorted colors talks of a young girl's education it is time for some decent laborer to pick him up and drop him out the window. O'Cleary thanks Hudson for the 125 francs received for correspondence rendered to the Ave Maria. He assures Hudson that he will send the relics but that there will be some delay. The Cardinal Vicar is strict about granting relics because of unbecoming frauds at Rome. His health is so poor that he must return to Ireland. He is threatened with paralysis.
