"The Memoirs of Admiral Dahlgren ", which she edited will be published in the autumn by Osgood and Company. Father E. Q. Howe encloses a check for the New Orleans Carmelites. It is strange that the Sisters of St. Mary's of the Woods had trouble getting their copies of "Record of a Suffering Soul". Howe wrote to the Chicago people about it but got no reply. Howe intended to give them a chance to repair past injustice, but they did not take it. Father Burke has taken fifty copies, and Mother Catherine Feehan has also ordered fifty copies. General Jonathan Scammon visited Howe. :: X-2-j A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo.

He sends a statement of his mission's financial affairs. The government builds the schools for the Indians and pays for the teachers, but Ebner has nothing for churches and for priests. Ten persons, priests, brothers and sisters are employed as teachers. For this the government pays $375 every quarter, out of which they must board...
