Starr, Charles E., Fort Meade, Dakota Territory, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1882 September 11
Scope and Contents
Starr is glad that his letter pleased Father-General Edward Sorin, Father Alexis Granger, Father J. Gleason and Hudson. His only purpose was to state the truth, that Gleason was uncompromising with hypocrisy. He has not seen Father P. Shea recently, but heard that another priest had arrived at Deadwood. When Starr sees Shea he will give him Hudson's message. Colonel Elmer Otis is acquainted with Father Bronson the new priest. While Otis or General Sturgis is in command here, the priest will find a friend in the commanding officer. Starr thanks Hudson for the pictures and requests more copies of the "Life and Writings of St. Teresa" and "Patron Saint". Enclosed is $5 for the Sisters of Mount Carmel in New Orleans. Starr's youngest brother was ordained a priest July 16th in Ireland. :: X-2-j A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
