Returns for May 1855, St. Patrick's Church . Father Cyril Delacroix has not sent in the amount of his receipts from the cemetery. He sent word by Father John D. Scope and Contents These lines are from the father of Father James Ignatius Mullon of St. Patrick's Church. He moved to Dayton in 1842, bought a house and lot for $450. He lives a few doors from the German Church, about a mile from the English Church. He entered his 77th year January 1, 1849; the Reverend Mullon his 56th last Christmas day. Blanc is to direct or assist Father Mullon to collect $180 before August 21 or he will be penniless with a wife and four children. $180 will secure him a home for life....

Mulloy received Blanc's letter of November 26 in which Blanc says that the $5 Mulloy sent in November 1850 are still subject to Mulloy's order. Mulloy sent the $5 to Mary Maddan but she did not call for them; she is now in Maysville. As Mulloy is a poor man, he wanted Father John Joyce to write for the sum but Joyce did not want to bother Blanc. Mulloy asks Blanc to sent it. :: VI-1-b A.L.S. 2pp. 4to.

A person from Paris wrote that, not knowing his address, he was sending a small case containing two old chasubles and several small things of little value to him in care of Rousselon. He hates to bother Rousselon but asks to be informed when the case arrives so that he can have a person at New Orleans forward it. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is thinking of holding a Convention at Chicago in 1893. They would like to know the date of the (Columbian) Catholic Congress, since they would like to convene at that time, as it would insure a better attendance at the Society's gathering.

Mulry believes it fairly certain that the Society of St. Vincent De Paul will hold its convention in Chicago. They will be pleased to furnish a paper on the history of the Society. It is too early to positively say what will be done since all places have not been heard from. The Society is proud to count Onahan as a member.

The Society of St. Vincent De Paul has decided to hold their annual about the time the Catholic Congress convenes. Richard C. Gannon is to confer with Onahan on the best time for holding the convention. Joseph A. Kernan has been selected to prepare the paper on the Society.

A great part of the Army of Occupation, say two to three, are Roman Catholics. They are compelled to attend sermons of a minister of the Presbyterian denomination whose chief aim is to vilify the Catholic Church. Harper and Brothers have received Professor Arthur Stace 's manuscript and placed it in the hands of an editorial reader. While interesting the editor states that the present load of work makes it impossible to accept it. Harper's had a letter from Father Thomas Walsh which gave satisfaction. The recent death of James A. McMaster has created considerable work for Maurice F. Egan :: X-3-b A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo.

They have been sending Hudson the North American Review in the hope that he might like to receive it in exchange for the Ave Maria. Would Hudson oblige them by sending the Ave Maria to Father Joseph H. Bigley of New York. Hudson's kindness to himself and his son dwell in his memory. Scope and Contents Munro presented Hudson's inquiry to the proper person at Harper Brothers and was told that it was impractical to furnish printed impressions of the three engravings to which Hudson referred. The cost of engraving the three cuts was over nine hundred dollars. Harper's compromised by offering Hudson the electros for use only in connection with the Ave Maria for three hundred dollars, on the condition that Hudson give Harper's credit. He called upon Father William McClellan of New York and begged money to get to Michigan where he said he had relatives. A report of his death has reached Scotland. It is of considerable importance to ascertain the truth of this report as Carlisle had sold his 400 pound life insurance policy to a priest of this district who has been paying the premium on it. That priest had left Scotland about 1856 or 1857 and went to New York to ask for money from Father William McClellan in order to visit his relatives in Michigan. A report has reached Scotland that Carlisle is dead. As Carlisle had his life insured for 400 pounds and had assigned his policy to a clergyman of Scotland, who has been paying the duty and premium upon it, it is very important to ascertain if that priest is dead or alive....
