He also wishes to know what he should do in the following case. A young woman has been coming for instructions for baptism. She had been married by the judge to a Catholic some years ago. Hynes said that for this year it was absolutely useless to talk of Blanc's bill; that it would be too late. Hynes said he would keep all the papers for the next legislature. Lavay also talked with Henry? St. Paul who also said it was too late. Lavay thinks St. Paul is not very zealous for this bill. Blanc's letter of yesterday is far from quieting. He asks Blanc to tell him...

Scope and Contents In asking for the dispensation from disparity of cult for Fleming Tynes and Ann Polson, Lavay made a mistake. He was told that the young man had never been baptized and he has told Lavay since that he was baptized in the Presbyterian church. If it does not spoil Blanc's plans, Lavay asks him to defer his visit to Baton Rouge until the end of July. Lavay is to go to Grand Coteau to make his retreat and will not be back until the end of next month. He would like to be here during Blanc's...

Scope and Contents Will Blanc come soon for Confirmation? Lavay would like to prepare the children for First Communion before that time. They will resume work this week on the new church to finish it. It was suspended for several reasons; the principal one was lack of funds. The trustees all seem determined to go ahead. Mr. Thériot is no longer there with his narrow ideas. The schools are doing well enough, there are 100 to 120 children in the two. A house for the girls' school has been built; only it is not...

Scope and Contents Yesterday, Lavay saw Miss Mathilde Victor . As the Ladies of the Sacred Heart had not yet written to her, Lavay said nothing of their intention in regard to the sale of the house. Victor is very sensitive of Blanc's interest in her establishment and seems determined to keep his favor. She wants to keep the house she occupies as she would not know where to find one as suitable. So if Blanc can buy it, it would be a great favor for the whole parish. Victor says she was disposed to pay the rent...

Scope and Contents Yesterday Dr. Williams showed Lavay a letter from Blanc. It has embarrassed Williams greatly as he has already taken possession of the house and counted on opening his school next Monday. If Blanc cannot accord this favor, Lavay is afraid Williams will...

Dr. Enders wants very much to buy the house but he wants to give only $6000, $2000 in cash and the rest at 1,2, and 3 years. The notes would be deposited in the bank of Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Scope and Contents Lavay received Blanc's letter of November 5. He would have answered immediately if Jules Bonnecaze had not said he had just written on that subject. Yesterday Lavay saw Dr. Enders who said that all was ready for the completion of the sale except one small difficulty. It seems that the mortgage was never lifted by Mr. Henderson and the recorder refuses to lift it unless he is given the notes attesting that the property was paid for. Enders asks Blanc to send him the three notes which Blanc...
