O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1881 July 21

 Item — Box CHUD 3
Identifier: CHUD X-2-h
Scope and Contents

O'Meara forwards with her letter a letter sent from Cracovie. It is a relief to learn that the notice of H. P. was not Hudson's. Bishop William Bernard Ullathorne advised cutting it down because there was something too sentimental in the style to suit English tastes. O'Meara has found that "Journée" was translated by an Anglican Sisterhood. She has begun to collect material for St. Roselie. :: X-2-h A.L.S. 2pp. 4to.

 Item — Box CHUD 3
Identifier: CHUD X-3-h
Scope and Contents O'Meara submits a translation of a legend about Henri Perreyne . "Pere Besson" is getting on and she will send Hudson the first part in time to begin publication in January. She inquires if Hudson would help her publish Perreyne's "Journee des Malades". Catholic publishers in London to whom she submited a translation of Perreyne's work together with a sketch of his life told her that they can do nothing with Catholic books and Washbourne says he means to up the business altogether....

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1883 October 11

 Item — Box CHUD 6
Identifier: CHUD X-2-l
Scope and Contents O'Meara submits a manuscript and asks Hudson to name it. She warns Hudson to beware of Monsignor Thomas John Capel . He has been a thorn in the side of the church at home for years, but for Henry Cardinal Manning 's compassion and hope of his ultimate conversion, he would have been shown up. His cleverness and deceit enabled him to escape the condemnation that nearly over took him in Rome. He has no diocese and not a bishop and never again will have faculties as a priest in England. The...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1877 December 21

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is pleased to receive the Ave Maria weekly but it saddens her to think that she is no longer associated with the publishing of it. Her one consolation, however, is the thought that the Ave Maria is a source of great enjoyment to the many readers to whom she lends it, and especially the Passionist Fathers. She hopes that the Ave Maria is enjoying a period of progress and prosperity. The French people are praying that the life of their Cardinal who was arrested on his way to Rome and...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 February 22

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She will write the sketch on Father Lecordaire as soon as time permits. Father Dennis was pleased to hear from Hudson and told her that Hudson may count on his poor prayers and those of his family. She wonders if there is any use in offering her story to the Ave Maria which she wrote two years ago at Father Edward Sorin's and Mother Angela's advice. She feels as though this contains the most powerful teaching she has yet done. She cannot publish it in her country as Cardinal Manning has...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 March 28

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending the complete manuscript of "Cyril's Vocation" instead of drawing up an outline of it that would not have given Hudson a complete story to judge. She sent it by parcel post in four parcels. If Hudson likes it, he should keep it until it can be published; if he does not like it, he should return it. Her name should be omitted if it is published. She is in disgrace with some of Hudson's readers and her fame would prejudice the readers rather than attract them. Many English...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 July 12

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending Hudson her address for the next two months. He should not let her name appear at the head of the story in the Ave Maria as it will get her into trouble with Cardinal Manning. If she had been allowed to publish it in England she could have gotten any price for it, but she owes it to the United States to make this sacrifice to their feelings. Father Denis has been taken to Rome and made a great gun in the order, much to his despair. His people tried to keep him by a...

O'Meara, Kathleen, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1881 February 2

 Item — Box CHUD 3
Identifier: CHUD X-2-g
Scope and Contents She thanks Hudson for the bundle of pamphlets, which they are reading with great interest. The picture of the new college is a marvellous testimony to the energy and prosperity of Notre Dame. She encloses a letter from a friend of hers who is in the center of everything Catholic and knows what is going on in high quarters even before the best informed journals hear of it. Her information about the Barnebites return came directly from the Nuncio and is not yet suspected in Paris. Would...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Woolhampton, England To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 November 27

 Item — Box CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-e
Scope and Contents The sketch of Pere Lecondaire was sent a few days ago. There was no hurry as she found Hudson was reproducing her Robin Redbreast. Supposes "Cyril" will begin with the new year. She has been cramming her outlines and leading events into her manuscript and it will make about 15 pages in the Ave Maria, for $15. Father Dennis has been sent to Rome for a post of responsibility. It was a great grief to the English people and they sent petitions to the Holy Father begging for a reprieve but...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Woolhampton, England, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 December 9

 Item — Box CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-e
Scope and Contents Hudson's letter of Nov. 18th received and she wrote one to him the same day. Hopes the sketch of Pere Lecondaire has reached Notre Dame safely. "Cyril" is supposed to appear without the name of the author at the Cardinal's request. Also for the people concerned in the history it needs a much more famous name to make it interesting. The story is the true story of two souls and while writing it, the power was felt so intensely that it was an effort to go on with the work. She is sure it...

 Item
Identifier: CONA IX-1-a
Scope and Contents She has been remiss in writing to her brother. She hears about Onahan through visitors; Mr. Colmary of Baltimore was enthusiastic about him; Father A Croke of Chicago thinks Onahan is the backbone of Church and State. Dr. Reilly of Detroit, Treasurer of the Irish Land League called there. He spoke of Onahan's visit to Detroit. He is another victim, not to the cause of Ireland, but to the mad ambition of one individual. She realizes more and more how Providence kept Onahan out of the...

Scope and Contents Although Brownson said that if she received Brownson's Works, no answer to his letter was necessary, Madam Onahan tells him what a treasure they have been to her and to her pupils of the past year. She left to her brother the duty of acknowledging the safe arrival of the books which she considers the most valuable part of the library. Volume 20 seldom leaves her desk and is her "vade mecum". She promises to do all in her power to "spread devotion" to Dr. Orestes A. Brownson. :: III-3-b...

Scope and Contents When it was learned that McMaster was in Ohio, Onahan was authorized to invite him to Chicago to lecture for the Young Men's Invincible Club, a Democratic organization to which Onahan has referred in his letters to the Freeman's Journal. They still would like to have him in Chicago, and if McMaster would like to travel this way again, he would find many...
