O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1883 October 11
Scope and Contents
O'Meara submits a manuscript and asks Hudson to name it. She warns Hudson to beware of Monsignor Thomas John Capel . He has been a thorn in the side of the church at home for years, but for Henry Cardinal Manning 's compassion and hope of his ultimate conversion, he would have been shown up. His cleverness and deceit enabled him to escape the condemnation that nearly over took him in Rome. He has no diocese and not a bishop and never again will have faculties as a priest in England. The sensation he is making in the United States is giving pain and scandal in Europe. :: X-2-l A.L.S. 4pp. 16mo.
