Scope and Contents At the request of Bishop Richard Gilmour, Houck sent by express some data on the life of Bishop Louis Amadeus Rappe for Clarke's Vol.III of the "Deceased Bishops". Houck has also written some of the priests to gather additional information from parishoners who knew Rappe when he was a missionary on the Maumee. In reply to Clarke's letter of January 28, Houck has failed to get any additional data on the life and labors of Bishop Louis Amadeus Rappe though he has written several parties on the subject. Bishop Louis Joseph De Goesbriand, a life-long friend of Rappe, could give valuable information on him. Also Bishop Joseph P. Macheboeuf would assist Clarke. P.S. Mr. Lucas of Baltimore informs him that his father was the first publisher of the present Sadlier series and that the first volume was published in 1833. Houck published in the "Universe" the report of the diocese of Cincinnati for the first three years of the Directory.

House holds a tax title upon St. Ann's Church for 1855. He had called while in Detroit a few days ago at Lefevere's residence to offer to sell the same, but Lefevere was out of the city. Seton's letter to the Professor of Latin literature was referred to Howard. He knows of no recent annotated edition of the entire corpus of Latin classics. The most satisfactory edition is the "Bibliotheca Classica Latina" Paris 1819-1838. This edition comprises 144 volumes.
