Hardey, Father Richard B., Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Archbishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1858 December 5
Hardey cannot in conscience undertake the charge of the parish of St. Joseph of Baton Rouge. He felt well and adequate on his arrival but feels so overcome by the little he has done that he is convinced he could not do justice to the office of pastor. He has been obliged to call on Father Darius Hubert, S.J. to do much for him. Hardey begs to be relieved. He supposes that he will have to retire from active duty. VI-1-o - A.L.S. - 2pp. - 4to. - {2}

Hardey, Father Richard B., Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Archbishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1855 May 28
Hardey writes in favor of two children of this town who are orphans. Their parents were bad Catholics. As there are two asylums, male and female, in New Orleans and as these children are a boy about 12 and a girl about 9, Hardey thinks it better to have them located in the same town. They have $300 on hand which could be paid to the two asylums. Some little more may be added from time to time as there is one servant whose hire will be worth something. :: VI-1-i A.L.S. 1p. 4to.

Hardey, Father Richard B., Vicksbury, Mississippi, to Archbishop Anthony Blanc, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1853 April 19
Hardey received Blanc's letter of the 7th; he answers with a heart full of pain. Patience and forebearance are lost on Father Stephen H. ? Montgomery? . Hardey must keep him from the altar; as long as he is seen officiating, his talk will produce evil. He celebrated by stealth early Holy Thursday. If Hardey cannot check him here, his ministry is without advantage. If Blanc lets Hardey act as circumstances require, he will save Blanc pain. :: VI-1-e A.L.S. 1p. 4to.
