O'Meara will look for the engraving of Murillo's Annunciation. She doubts if it can be secured in Paris, but if she does get it the cost will be 15 francs. O'Meara thanks Hudson for the notice of Mrs. Nam's book. :: X-2-n A Postcard S. 1p. 32mo.

 Item — Box CHUD 3
Identifier: CHUD X-2-h
Scope and Contents

She thanks Hudson for the enclosure and the letter of last week. She is thinking of a sketch of Soeur Rosalie's life but modern types are perhaps more useful. It is hard work possessing one's soul in peace these troubling times. She had an inspiring letter from Cardinal Henry Edward Manning about her Perreyve. He is angry at a hostile notice of it in the "Tablets." She hopes Hudson will not condemn Perreyve as a liberal. :: X-2-h A. Postcard S.

Scope and Contents

O'Meara forwards with her letter a letter sent from Cracovie. It is a relief to learn that the notice of H. P. was not Hudson's. Bishop William Bernard Ullathorne advised cutting it down because there was something too sentimental in the style to suit English tastes. O'Meara has found that "Journée" was translated by an Anglican Sisterhood. She has begun to collect material for St. Roselie. :: X-2-h A.L.S. 2pp. 4to.

Identifier: CHUD X-3-h
Scope and Contents O'Meara submits a translation of a legend about Henri Perreyne . "Pere Besson" is getting on and she will send Hudson the first part in time to begin publication in January. She inquires if Hudson would help her publish Perreyne's "Journee des Malades". Catholic publishers in London to whom she submited a translation of Perreyne's work together with a sketch of his life told her that they can do nothing with Catholic books and Washbourne says he means to up the business altogether....

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She received both Hudson's notes by the same post, and asks him to throw the missing manuscript into the fire. She should have sent him the sketch of Mother Teresa Kelly ten days ago; the delay is caused by her having given it to a friend to copy. She is grateful to see that Hudson published her account of the miracle. One needs such consolations these days, especially in France where the devil seems to be having things his own way. There is despair at the city of Paris withdrawing all...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1877 December 21

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is pleased to receive the Ave Maria weekly but it saddens her to think that she is no longer associated with the publishing of it. Her one consolation, however, is the thought that the Ave Maria is a source of great enjoyment to the many readers to whom she lends it, and especially the Passionist Fathers. She hopes that the Ave Maria is enjoying a period of progress and prosperity. The French people are praying that the life of their Cardinal who was arrested on his way to Rome and...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 February 22

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She will write the sketch on Father Lecordaire as soon as time permits. Father Dennis was pleased to hear from Hudson and told her that Hudson may count on his poor prayers and those of his family. She wonders if there is any use in offering her story to the Ave Maria which she wrote two years ago at Father Edward Sorin's and Mother Angela's advice. She feels as though this contains the most powerful teaching she has yet done. She cannot publish it in her country as Cardinal Manning has...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 March 28

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending the complete manuscript of "Cyril's Vocation" instead of drawing up an outline of it that would not have given Hudson a complete story to judge. She sent it by parcel post in four parcels. If Hudson likes it, he should keep it until it can be published; if he does not like it, he should return it. Her name should be omitted if it is published. She is in disgrace with some of Hudson's readers and her fame would prejudice the readers rather than attract them. Many English...

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending Hudson her address for the next two months. He should not let her name appear at the head of the story in the Ave Maria as it will get her into trouble with Cardinal Manning. If she had been allowed to publish it in England she could have gotten any price for it, but she owes it to the United States to make this sacrifice to their feelings. Father Denis has been taken to Rome and made a great gun in the order, much to his despair. His people tried to keep him by a...

 Item — Box CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She sends a manuscript on St. Terese entitled "One of God's Heroines". If the title is objectionable Hudson may change it to one more suitable to the subject therein. Refering to the remarkable mid-ocean adventures of Rev. Laurin, which serve to promote devotion to the Blessed Virgin by exposing the miraculous help obtained, effecting the rescuing of his ship, through invoking her assistance, she states that an account of this narrow escape written by Rev. Laurin would prove very...

Miss O'Meara acknowledges the 15 £ received from Hudson. She would like Hudson to bring out the sketch of Mother Teresa before "The Battle of Connemara" as many Sisters of Mercy are waiting to see it. She is aware of the fact that arrangements may already be made. She asks Hudson to be remembered in his prayers. :: X-2-e A.L.S. 2pp. 16 mo

Scope and Contents Miss O'Meara had hoped to send Hudson a souvenir from Pere Lacordaire for Easter but her friend, P. Chocarne, who promised it to her was called away to preach at Orleans and has not returned. She asks Hudson to have a few copies of "Cyril" struck off from the Ave Maria type before it is dispersed if it is possible. She wanted to have some copies printed in London but it was too expensive, and the printers told her that once the type was set it was a trifle. 3000 men have received...

Scope and Contents O'Meara meant to send Hudson a short sketch for Easter but was unable to do so. She placed Hudson's name in the book of prayers in the Sacristy of Notre Dame des Victoires. France is in the ridiculous situation of begging for a mountebank to govern her and no one has been found brave enough to govern her. An Orleanist monarchy would be an improvement, but it would not last any more than Louis Philippe's government. The Catholics have no confidence in the Comte de Paris. Joseph Cardinal...

Scope and Contents O'Meara submits a story entitled "Soeur Rosalie" which is 175 pages in length. The price according to the agreement would be forty pounds, but she will not hold Hudson to the agreement unless the Ave Maria is flourishing. She put Hudson's name down for prayers at Notre Dame des Victoires. O'Meara does not like to hear that Hudson is ill so frequently. The Church's canonization of St. Benedict Labre was a glorious stroke of opportunism. The anti-Christians are so sensible to it that they...

Scope and Contents She hopes that the portraits of P. Lacordaire and the letters reached Hudson intact. She forgot to include the bill but there is no hurry. She hopes Hudson's health is improved. She commands Hudson to Out Lady of Notre Dame des Victoires. They are in the slough of atheism there and the spirit of hate is already being felt in the air. Nature seems to resent the revolt and impiety of the nation; the rivers are overflowing in every direction. If the Seine rises 50 centimeters higher Paris...

O'Meara is glad she carried out Hudson's commission satisfactorily. If the Expulsion Law is passed it may cause a Revolution. Scope and Contents Hudson's letter to her was satisfactory. She will be pleased to receive the Ave Maria, to indicate the choice of subject if Hudson wishes to have another manuscript from her. "The Battle of Connemare" may be called a children's book, but it was written for mature readers; she wished to illustrate the contrast between the Catholic priest and the selfish Protestant person. She describes the novel. The 50 pounds she indicated as the price was based on an agreement made with Hudson's...
