He thanks Seton for his kind letter of last autumn. His mother, Mrs. William Dunlop, passed away on Easter evening. He is glad Seton saw his mother as he appreciated her brave heart. Dunlop's mother used to say that she thought they as Protestants lost a great deal for lack of a due appreciation of the character of the Virgin Mary. Dunlop leaves by the "City of Rome" for New York on June 16. He will be staying near Patterson and will visit (Seton) from there. He is told that there is a retreat at Notre Dame with priests from all parts participating. It is possible that there is among them one who knows the Potawatomi language. There was a Catholic mission to the Potawatomi in Indiana which was served by Fathers Petit and Badin, located on Twin Lakes. John Gilmary Shea says the name of it is Chichipy Outippe; he used correspondence preserved at Notre Dame. He would like to make sure of the point. :: XI-2-i A.L.S. 4pp.

Purcell granted Dunn a dispensation for two parties some time ago but before it arrived, they were married by a preacher. There was no necessity for this hurry. The Catholic girl wishes to return to her duty and her husband wishes to become a Catholic. Dunn asks Purcell what he should do since her conduct is known publicly. The "Visit" was copied from some exchange which gave credit to the "Paterson Weekly Times." If they have done the Ave Maria an injustice it was unintentional. P.S.
