Muir sends Hudson a copy of "White Flowers." Hudson and John Boyle O'Reilly are the only Catholic editors with whom Muir has any comfort in dealings. When Muir teased Professor Arthur Stace and said audacious things to him, he thought that Muir must be in love with him. She heard an imitation of Professor Ainsworth 's drawl which makes her want to see that sample of European culture. Muir speaks of coming east to visit some relatives and while visiting them she would visit Hudson, that she might discuss her spiritual problems. Muir thinks she will never write a Catholic story because it would not pay. With the exception of a few religious whose lives are unavailable, Muir sees nothing admirable in individual Catholics. Muir does not want Hudson's thanks for her contributions to the Ave Maria. They are the only religious exercises that she has inclination for. She is provoked with the end of "Father Tom". Muir agrees with Hudson, Eleanor Donnelly is very feminine. Mrs. Burnett 's story has a good conclusion. Scope and Contents Muir does not like English writers and makes comments on works by a number of them. She has seen that poet of the Sierras going the rounds. Morality is unnecessary in poetry but when a man with partners of assorted colors talks of a young girl's education it is time for some decent laborer to pick him up and drop him out the window. Muir gives her letter to her friend, Julia Clifford who is traveling past Notre Dame. If Hudson has not printed the lines on "Death," he should throw it away. To insure Hudson that she is not an "Indian Giver" she will give some lines to take their place. Hudson's last letter to Muir had a humorous touch to it even if it was at her expense. She understands why Professor Arthur Stace slighted her and thought she was pursuing him with the desperation of declining years. The article "Colorado" has been reprinted in Idaho Territory. There is much adventure and romance about Colorado that is missed by correspondents due in part to the way Coloradans tax an Easterner's credulity. Muir does not see the same conscientiousness among Americans in literature as they show in art. She sends an article for the Scholastic. Northern Colorado is full of Ex-Union men but west of the divide the other side has its representatives....
