Colonel and Mrs. Elmer Otis and family are well. They have made Gordon's visit at the Army post delightful. Ordinarily there are one company of infantry, one battery of artillery and two troops of cavalry stationed at San Antonio. Scope and Contents Gordon has been traveling about Illinois visiting friends and so has neglected her correspondence. She has returned to her home town of Cairo and describes it for Hudson. With the flood on the Mississippi and the Ohio Rivers at Cairo, Gordon's father sent her to stay with her grandmother at Villa Ridge, a rural villages which she describes in details. Her father wishes Gordon to go to the Philadelphia Medical College, but she protests, since she does not wish to begin studying again. ::...

His object in writing is to get back in school again if Edwards can help him. Father Morrissey wrote that all the places were filled. The only thing he cares to study is the organ and piano. He is willing to work at anything. Besides teaching the mandolin he can teach violin or piano. He asks that Edwards use his influence in getting him back.

Some time ago he spoke to Henry Ogden in reference to obtaining a copy and Ogden suggested writing to William Seton in whose possession he thought the picture then was. He heard nothing further and fears his letter was mailed after William Seton's departure for Europe. He is now having a full sized copy made of the picture of W(illiam) Seton now in the possession of his cousin Mary Ogden. He wishes one day to present a copy of it...
