The Ladies will not let her have it until they have had a display for the Cardinal which will be in May. She also has some alter linen. Hudson's letter and souvenir received. Miss Mann hoped the vestments would arrive in time for Pentecost. The money should pay expenses from Notre Dame to the Mission. Miss Mann told Hudson, "if I receive some money due me, and has been due for years, I would send some to Ireland." She never expects to make money on a volume of poetry, although she does not expect to lose it for she is sure she can sell the Sisters of Notre Dame, two hundred copies. Mannix does not admire Mr. Patrick Hickey for he is such a toady to a certain clique and never has a kind word for a good cause, such as the Land League . Mannix expresses her opinion at great length about the Land League and Irish patriotism....

The sketch as appearing in the AVE MARIA is pleasing to Mrs. Mannix. Mrs. Mannix received the picture of Sister Rosalie five minutes after her baby girl was born. Hence, she named her Alice Rosalie Mary. She did not write because all the children had the measles, and her hands were full. Christmas was merry and gay in spite of everything. When last writing to Hudson she had received only one volume of the book and found it incomplete, now she finds it consists of 3 volumes. It will make 175 pages in the Ave Maria. Because of the peculiarities of Leval's style it is difficult to translate. In a review in the "Catholic World" of two translations of "Jesuits" by Miss Sadlier and T. F. Galway, they find fault with both for trying to preserve...

She inquiries about the cost of Publishing a volume of verses by the Notre Dame Press, and thanks Hudson for the copy of "Household library of Catholic Poets". Mannix thinks it odd when she sees Nugent Robinson 's articles in the Ave Maria. She comments on a number of the articles that appeared in the Ave Maria. She wonders if she will ever see Archbishop Thomas Croke 's of Cashel reply to the deputation from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Mannix found no errors in the proof. She also writes children's stories. Hudson is in error, since her stories do not appear in the Catholic World.
