Mannix, Mary, Cincinnati, Ohio, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1882 February 21
Scope and Contents
Mannix submits a translation of a poem sent her by Father Edward Purcell. She never expects to make money on a volume of poetry, although she does not expect to lose it for she is sure she can sell the Sisters of Notre Dame, two hundred copies. Mannix does not admire Mr. Patrick Hickey for he is such a toady to a certain clique and never has a kind word for a good cause, such as the Land League . Mannix expresses her opinion at great length about the Land League and Irish patriotism. The Catholic World published some of the verses about Ireland in their March number. Mannix did not think much of Nugent Robinson 's story. She asks Hudson to thank Professor Joseph Lyons for sending the Scholastic Annual. :: X-2-i A.L.S. 6pp. 12mo.
