Chalon wrote news of Bishop Michael Portier yesterday. He is at the Sisters' infirmary; the doctor has no hope and says Portier could die any moment. Chalon asks Rousselon to beg Bishop Anthony Blanc to come as soon as he can. Father E. LeBlond will deliver this letter and the $15.10 Chalon owes Rousselon. LeBlond is a good man. :: VI-2-a A.L.S. Chalon is sending back the invoice no enclosure and Rousselon is to return the bill of lading as Bishop Portier must sign it. As soon as Rousselon receives the box he is to send back the bill of lading and all attached papers as Portier has established that the box was opened only at customs in Mobile so they think they will not have to pay any fee. :: VI-1-o A.L.S. Bishop Portier has just given Chalon a note which Thomas Elder, agent of the Ladies of the Sacred Heart, wrote him. It seems that their box, included in that of the Ladies at Grand Coteau, is going around the world. Rousselon is to show Elder the letter of Mr. Poussielgue Rusand which Chalon sent and ask him if he has any news of this box. He is also to pay Elder their share of the costs. Chalon has just received from a customs official, their box and the enclosed certificate to release Rousselon from the bond he gave to customs at New Orleans. If their box had arrived at Mobile from Havre they would have had to pay nothing but the "harpies" at New Orleans not only crumpled? their vestments but made them pay $6.25? duty.
