Scope and Contents O'Neill sent an article on the Death and Assumption of Mary. He understands Hudson's disinclination to mention O'Neill's application to Father-General Edward Sorin, C.S.C.. He found Hudson's advice to write to Sorin in French "rich". When addressing the community at St. Laurent College, Sorin used English. At Notre Dame he used the same language and then called on Father John A. Zahm, C.S.C. for an English speech. Sorin would suspect latent irony if O'Neill wrote to him in French. ::...

Oechtering arrived in Antwerp on May 19th. On May 28th he made his promised pilgrimage to the Shrine at Telgte. The atmosphere is very Catholic, even though the Cultur-Kampf is still going on. Oechtering assisted at the consecration of a new church at Mesum. Bishop Herman Dingelstadt of Munster took part in the ceremonies.
