MacDonnell claims that despite the heat wave, the climate of Portugal is sensibly colder than it was when she arrived there in 1865 and it is telling on the orange groves. An attack of rheumatism has prevented her from finishing the translation of the Hungarian Tale for the Ave Maria. As for her story, "My Wings", Hudson improved it greatly. Her daughter Mary was a clerk in this store until Shaw withdrew her last October, because she became engaged to marry Carroon. Carroon says he was a brother for seven years at Notre Dame.
