Dennehy, William F., Dublin, Ireland, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1888 June 15
Scope and Contents
Hudson should do what he thinks best on the article about Aubrey de Vere. The chief difficulty he has with the Rescript is that it seems to condemn certain weapons because they have been used for evil purposes. This is the same as telling the world that swords and pistols are to be made no longer, because murder may be committed with either. The more important point is that even British law recognizes the landlord as being only a minor partner with the tenant and not the absolute owner as some would regard him. With this in mind, Dennehy does not like the idea of setting the Irish people half crazy agitating about what they do not understand. :: X-3-g A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
