The latest account from Rome lay up against Edwards a sure case of libel against her character. She can hardly credit her ears. Since she received that note dated from Detroit she has been waiting to hear what Edwards has to say for himself.

It is some time since G.H. House wrote him about a tax deed which they hold on St. Ann's Church, Detroit?. Lefevere replied he would have House's proposition submitted to the members of the church. By examine his register Office, Lefevere will find that House paid the state $120 instead of $55.61. Nash does not know what the property is worth but has been told it would bring $100,000. Regarding Louis, he had two telegrams from him about money. Want of money seems to be a chronic ailment of his. Louis says he has worked harder than he ever did before. Edwards' letter addressed to Mrs. Nash in Mexico was received there by him. She did not go. They are gratified to hear good things about Louis. Edwards' interest in him places them under obligations to him.

Nash sends a draft on New Orleans in Blanc's favor to be held subject to the order of Father John Lynch, C.M. , president of St. Mary's of Perry County, being a school bill of $246.76 net. Their bishop Bishop John Mary Odin is now on the frontier of the state and has not been heard from for some time.
