Poor Tom Nash arrived home, half-dead but when restored to his room and comfortably fixed began to recover from the journey. Nash thanks Odin for his and the Sisters' efforts in caring for the boy and in placing him in the Hotel Dieu—these steps undoubtedly saved his life. Nash sends Odin $110, the balance owed the Sisters. He lost all his hard savings in the failure of the National Bank of Galveston. John L. Danagh and Joe Hundly, the new president and vice-president of the Bank, have called for a 50% draw on the stockholders to save the bank. As he held $2000 in stock, he now must pay $1000. As he cannot pay this amount, he will lose all of his investment.
