Scope and Contents He writes at the request of Charles D. Smith who went by the nickname of Major Dwight Smith and who at one time was a student at Notre Dame. Smith was arrested for bigamy on the ground that he married Mrs. De Mar in Monroe without having a divorce from Marie V. Turner. Smith acted in good faith, as he believed he had obtained a divorce from the latter, who had been untrue to him. When he found that Mrs. De Mar was a notorious character, he left her. The Archbishop of Toronto appeared annoyed that his secretary did not send what he promised Edwards.The Archbishop promised to send Edwards the "Jesuit" newspaper published in Boston 1829-30, nicely bound. Edwards might pay him a visit. Kilroy left the "Catholic Telegraph" in Windsor with his sister to have it sent from Detroit. He cannot spare time to attend the Alumni celebration.

It is now five years since he was last at Notre Dame, the guest of Father Corby. He wrote twice to Father Cooney but got no reply. He asks who is Mother General at St. Mary's and if Mother Ascension is still living. He will be 70 years old next month.
