At a meeting of a committee for arranging preliminaries and programmes, it was decided that a list of Vice Presidents of the Congress include one representative from each diocese. The bishops and archbishops are asked to nominate at least one layman for the position. It is desired that the named gentlemen attend the Catholic Congress, but not necessary. Onahan asks to be informed of selections before October 12.

Enclosed is a copy of the Call for the Catholic Congress to be held in Baltimore, Nov. 11 and 12, 1889. The card method of introduction has been adopted to prevent entrance to unfit and prejudiced people. Under this plan, the bishops will write out the cards. They are asked to cooperate. Cardinal Gibbons has named Archbishop Ireland, and the bishops of Buffalo, Cleveland, Covingtion, Providence, and Detroit, to act as an advisory committee. :: IX-1-a Two Printed Copies 1p. 12mo. 10

It would be of considerable advantage to Brother Adjutor to have copies of the list of delegates to the (Columbian Catholic) Congress so that he can mail them the circular on hotel accommodations. Onahan only mailed the circular with the programme when it was requested.

Onahan assumes that Carroll is aware of the contemplated Catholic Congress to be held in Baltimore Nov. 11, 12, 1889. It is approved by Cardinal Gibbons and other archbishops. One of the duties of the committee on Organization is the selection of a temporary chairman, and on the part of the committee, Onahan asks Carroll to accept that position, since the name of Carroll is an outstanding one, This selection is commended by Cardinal Gibbons. :: IX-1-a A.L.unsigned 2pp. 12mo.

Onahan was unable to find Hudson before leaving Notre Dame the other day. Mrs. Onahan and Molly have not ceased praising Hudson. When Maurice Francis Egan arrives at the college will Hudson welcome him for Onahan? Onahan has hopes of seeing Egan before his arrival at Notre Dame. Onahan received Hudson's invitation to visit Notre Dame with Mr. O'Reilly and Mr. Patrick Hickey. Hickey did not come out this time and Mr. O'Reilly has left for home but via South Bend. Onahan expresses O'Reilly's regrets for him. Onahan has duties that closely occupy him and he cannot accept the invitation but hopes to see Hudson soon.
