Scope and Contents Father T.J. Shahan had made great progress in the construction of a diccesan history when he was called to the chair of Canon Law at the Catholic University in Washington. He is now in France or Belgium, accompanying Bishop John J. Keane to Rome where he will remain for two years and spend a third somewhere on the continent in preparation for teaching. He hurriedly left his manuscripts, unpolished and incomplete, and Shahan's mind on the matter is not yet known. Perhaps someone else...

The Sister says that they the Sisters of Mercy feel that they owe Purcell respect, gratitude and esteem, ever since they have come and she regrets that her note could have conveyed anything to the contrary. She humbly begs his forgiveness. She did not realize until now that Purcell did not want them to settle down in the western part of the city. Because of changes, and disorganization in the job department, (Onahan's) printing was delayed for which Mahon is sorry. He asks whether he could use some of (Onahan's) matter in the editorial columns of "The Catholic Home," such as on the Catholic Colonization Association, or the letters to the Bishops on the Educational Exhibit. However, he will not touch these subjects without permission, though he would like to have some original Chicago news.

Scope and Contents It is well for Edwards that he has taken a breathing spell since his return from Notre Dame, otherwise it is no knowing what rhapsodies of admiration he would have written over his visit. Never was a pilgrim more grateful. He has spoken to Mr. J. S. Hyland about the manuscript of Father William Corby. He almust dreads to think how the work will stand before Edwards' keen criticism. He hopes the chapter on Notre Dame will meet his approval. Edwards learned of the delay in getting out the copies of "The Columbian Jubilee". The work is for the populace and scarcely fit to encounter the criticism of professors of history. The chapter on Notre Dame is the only one devoted to any one institution. Mahon's job was merely fitting together the material. Scope and Contents Edwards' photographs of the California missions are now in course of reproduction. They are gathering in others from all parts of the world. Edwards is aware now that Maurice F. Egan is Editor of the work. Egan's name will give a stamp of superiority to the work in Catholic eyes. Mahon looks back gratefully to the cheery help he obtained from Notre Dame through Edwards. They plan to translate the book into Spanish, French and German. This enterprise has inspired the firm to go more largely...
