Louage heard Father Joseph Carrier, C.S.C., read Hudson's letter regarding the proper title of the Congregation of Holy Cross. He would like to know if it should be called the Congregation of the Holy Cross, the Religious of Holy Cross, or Religious of the Holy Cross. He cites the General Chapter of 1872 to confirm his belief that the proper title is "The Congregation of Holy Cross" and "Religious of Holy Cross." :: X-3-b A.L.S. 2pp. 4to.

Since many will be going to the Exhibition at Paris it would be advisable to get passage as soon as possible. He does not know how the syllabus is made out. The purpose of the lecture is to show that the growth of the papacy is not from extraneous causes. In the absence of Archbishop (Patrick John Ryan) Loughlin answered (Seton)'s telegram offering to write an article on (Giovanni Battista) De Rossi. Loughlin had just sent off a letter to Father (Thomas J.) Shahan asking him to write on the same subject. He feels he made a mistake and has written Shahan leaving him to decide who will do the article.

Father (Thomas J.) Shahan informed Loughlin of their agreement on the De Rossi article. They have an article of (Seton)'s on "Old Testament Subjects in Early Christian Art" which will go over to the January issue unless (Seton) prefers "Grandeur of Ancient Rome." They have heard murmurings of the Catholic Quarterly Review "never being up to date"; that is why they often hold over papers of genuine merit.

Father Joseph Brunsmann, O.M.C ., died in Brooklyn Sept. 15. He had his life insured for $10,000 and assigned the policy to Loughlin. He requested Loughlin to have the notice of his death published in the Catholic Telegraph so that it might come to the notice of those to whom he might be indebted. Loughlin writes that Father James Monahan, late of Purcell's diocese, has applied through his friend Father Timothy O'Farrell, for a mission in this diocese. It is stated that he obtained an exeat from Purcell but Loughlin does not know whether or not he has a recommendation.
