Strain saw Hudson's mother and sister who attends normal school at Salem, both are well. He was glad to hear that Hudson may soon visit this vicinity. A photograph of the church and school are enclosed. He has received Hudson's letter of the 11th. He expected Mr. Henguenet ? for understanding about the lottery, but he didn't come. He would like a copy of the description made by Miss Eliza Allen Starr, of Chicago, if possible. He is very glad that he has recovered from his illness. He acknowledges the receipt of the Ave Marias and sends a check for the whole year. He was pleased with the article on their Venerable Father and thanks Hudson. Strub has received many letters from people who believe that their lottery is a fraud like so many others. He asks Hudson to put a notice in the Ave Maria saying that their lottery will take place on March 19, in the new Convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph at Morrillton. Many tickets are held by subscribers of the Ave Maria. He sends his compliments to Father L.J. Letourneau. :: X-2-f A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo.

Hudson's letter was received while at Sharpsburg Pennsylvania. He has been ill since he returned to Arkansas and is very busy. Mr. Henquenet ?, the brother-in-law of Father L'Etourneau wrote that he will visit Strub to work up the projected lottery. He asks Hudson if he received the favorable reply expected from Miss Eliza Allen Starr. He easily imagines the trouble caused because of the fire. He has received Baraga's note of March 3 and will try to see that justice is done in regard to the school money. Stuart will make a report to the Secretary of War who will make such decision as he deems just. The results will be made known to Bishop Lefevere to whom Baraga should communicate. Should the treaty be ratified, the teacher can be procured next spring. Stuart hopes that Baraga will be able to do much for the Indians. :: III-2-g A.L.S. 1p. 8vo.

Mr. Studebaker did not wish her to come home for Christmas, because he feared she would be unwilling to return to the East and this seems necessary for the restoration of her health.
