Hudson is asked to delete Mrs. Henry Callender's name from the list of subscribers and add that of Father John J. Hughes of New York City. Scope and Contents Ryder is not recuperating very rapidly. He sends the article "Hawker" together with poems copied from J. G. Godwin 's collection. S. Baring Gould 's memoir is unsatisfactory to Catholic readers, since he maintains that Robert Stephen Hawker 's baptism and reception into the church resulted from coercion. Ryder is still ill. He is writing an article on Religion and Avarice which he will send Hudson. If Hudson is editor of the Scholastic, Ryder will send him clipped articles for it. Scope and Contents Hudson's letter received. Ryder sent the file of the "Catholic." He encloses a notice that may be altered as desired. In the letter that did not reach Hudson, Ryder used Hudson's name among others as reference for his ability as a Catholic writer. It was kind of Hudson to inform Ryder of Mr. Galway's retirement. Promises are difficult to keep if one does not have the will to keep them, so Ryder will not promise Hudson that he will retrain from drinking whiskey, but he will ask God to give him strength...
