Egan, Maurice F(rancis): New York, (New York) to Monsignor (Robert Seton: Jersey City Heights, New Jersey), 1887 March 29
He is very much shocked to know that the paragraph gave Seton such pain. He trusted a young gentleman to make up the column, and Egan was surprised to see how it had been done. He has concluded that it will give the "Joke"too much importance to notice it at all. He thanks Seton for his contribution. He will make amends but in a more effective way than by calling attention to that absurd squib.
Egan, Maurice F(rancis): New York, (New York) to Monsignor (Robert) Seton: (Jersey City Heights, New Jersey), 1887 March 30
He thanks Seton for his kind note. He has been very miserable over that silly paragraph. He dropped the man who wrote it into another berth and he has written Bishop (Winand Michael) Wigger for the name of a man he recommended lately. Henry Walsh, whose mother met Seton somewhere in the Old World, has asked Egan to go with him to call on Seton.(P.S) He has never met William Seton but wants to send him an invitation to meet (William Dean) Howells at the Author's Club.

Egan, Maurice Francis, Notre Dame, Indiana to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1892 June 26
He was touched by Edwards' kind words Since their conversation before Edwards went abroad, Edwards has made no allusion which could be construed into a wish that Egan should leave Notre Dame. He feels that he misunderstood Edwards' expression. He regrets that he misunderstood Edwards' attitude toward their mutual friend, Father Martin J. Regan, C.S.C.. :: XI-1-j A.L.S. 1p.
Egan, Maurice Francis, Notre Dame, Indiana to James F. Edwards, Notre Dame, Indiana, 1895 February 13
He returns the volume of the Catholic World and the book of the Silver Jubilee. These volumes were sent to him for use in the forth coming book of the Golden Jubilee. Edwards would have looked on his remarks last night as less impertinant if Edwards had remembered that the set of the Freeman's Journal is not Edwards' property and that Egan has the right to express his opinion as joint owner. He will make full explaintion at the next general faculty meeting. :: XI-1-m L.S.(Typed) 1p.

Egan, Maurice Francis, Sedalia, Missouri, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1877 October 12
He sends a sonnet to the Ave Maria with the request that the payment for the poem, or the poem itself if it is not used, be sent to his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania address. He did not mean to imply that his anonymously published book was objectionable but that it simply professed a negative attitude toward the Church. He admits that a Catholic should not follow this policy but then it is the only type of prose which he is capable of composing. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 1p. 8vo.
