Egan, Maurice Francis, New York, New York, to John Alphonsus McMaster, Key Francis, Cuba, 1884 April 2

 Item
Identifier: CMMA I-2-m
Scope and Contents Egan is anxiously expecting a list of John's friend's qualifications before he can secure him a post. He will be only too glad to help him settle on shore. Today, the day after James Alphonsus McMaster's sixty-fourth birthday, is unpleasant in New York. Egan expected to hear John's father speak of coffins, but instead he displayed a splendid pall of engraved gold sleeve buttons. Maria has the whooping-cough; and Egan has moved to Brooklyn. Larned has written, explaining the business of...

Egan, Maurice Francis, New York, New York, to John Alphonsus McMaster, Plaquemine, Louisiana, 1886 May 28 ?

 Item
Identifier: CMMA I-2-m
Scope and Contents John's note came; Egan was glad to see it, and thanks John for his thoughtfullness at San Antonio, Texas. He asks why John left that town so soon, for John's father does not want him to be a mere grubber of money, but to see all that is characteristic on the road. John ought to have taken the ride through the Indian Territory. That would have been part of his education. If John only stopped in a city to amuse himself at theaters and in visiting, it would be different. But he ought to...

Egan, Maurice F(rancis): New York, (New York) to Monsignor (Robert Seton: Jersey City Heights, New Jersey), 1887 March 29

 Item
Identifier: CSET II-1-b
Scope and Contents

He is very much shocked to know that the paragraph gave Seton such pain. He trusted a young gentleman to make up the column, and Egan was surprised to see how it had been done. He has concluded that it will give the "Joke"too much importance to notice it at all. He thanks Seton for his contribution. He will make amends but in a more effective way than by calling attention to that absurd squib.

Identifier: CSET II-1-b
Scope and Contents

He thanks Seton for his kind note. He has been very miserable over that silly paragraph. He dropped the man who wrote it into another berth and he has written Bishop (Winand Michael) Wigger for the name of a man he recommended lately. Henry Walsh, whose mother met Seton somewhere in the Old World, has asked Egan to go with him to call on Seton.(P.S) He has never met William Seton but wants to send him an invitation to meet (William Dean) Howells at the Author's Club.

Identifier: CMCM I-1-j
Scope and Contents It is useless to attempt to explain how wretched he is to have caused so much inconvenience. He has delayed answers in the hope that he might arrange matters at the last moment. He has a contract to lecture twelve times there. There are one hundred sisters at St. Mary's. They saw his name on the circular. The lecturer on philosophy was given the present week and that put Egan back another week. As the school dissolves the eighth the directress insists that he must stay. He wrote to (George)...

Scope and Contents Egan has finished his paper which he hopes to read himself. Donahoe wants the m(anu)s(cript) by Aug(ust) 5, in time for the September number. Onahan is asked to glance at it. The paper aims only to be practical and to touch only the glaring needs of most colleges. Egan has cut the paper to one-half hour. It should be understood, and not tire anybody. Mollie's picture appears in the C(atholic) W(orld?). Those distinguished women certainly needed her face to brighten their group. But she will...
