The writer is now having a short vacation. on a farm where he has been helping with the work, which he thinks stupid. He does not know how to answer Hudson's kind letter. Hudson has borne bravely the destruction of the University. On the first free day he will tour his friends for Notre Dame. Scope and Contents Egan was shocked to hear of the death of Samuel Hudson, Father Hudson's father. His dying in the creed in which he lived showed the honesty of his convictions. Hudson will do Egan a great favor by thanking Professor Timothy E. Howard, whose notice was too good. There are some errors at the beginning of his verses on Eleanor Cecilia Donnelly's book. The secular press in Philadelphia have given kind notices, but Egan has only seen the New York, "Times" and "World". "Preludes" may not sell...

Egan has great admiration for the Jesuits but they do not turn out as good Catholics as the Holy Cross Fathers. Their students are men of the old world. Should Egan write the circular? Dallas has no reason to be angry with Hickey as it was Egan who got his poem upside down, and also declined one of his manuscripts, which was excellent but too long. He received the remittance Hudson sent, and he hopes that Hudson received the extra copies of the magazine containing his poem, "Louis de Seille" which he authorized the publishers to send to Hudson.
