Does Hudson remember him as the clerk at Donahoe's bookstore? He lost sight of Hudson, but knew he was in Holy Orders, until a priest spoke of him as Editor of the Ave Maria. While editor of the "Catholic Herald" at Lawrence Massachusetts he received the magazine but has not seen it lately. He is now better paid and appreciated than when working...

O'Meara delayed writing to Hudson until she finished writing the biography of the Cure d' Ars, which she sends to Hudson. O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France R To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1879 May 20

 Item — Box CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-e
Scope and Contents Miss O'Meara cannot refrain from writing and expressing her sympathy over the loss of Notre Dame, which the blue cover of the Ave Maria had made familiar to all. She is amazed at how fast it turned to ashes and figures that it must have been all wood structure. She is very pleased, but surprised, to hear Hudson say that it will be rebuilt by September and she only hopes his promise will be justified. She thinks it is a very good idea that every reader of the Ave Maria contribute a...

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents The Superior of the Sisters of Mercy in Ireland has asked her to make a little sketch of the life of Mother M. Teresa Kelly. She thinks this sketch would find a place in the Ave Maria, and if Hudson is of the same opinion, she will send it to him. It will run about ten or twelve pages of the magazine. How she is looking forward to meeting Mother Mary Angela Gillespie, who is in Paris and has written her, requesting a visit. She also hopes to see Cardinal John McCloskey before he leaves....

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1877 December 21

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is pleased to receive the Ave Maria weekly but it saddens her to think that she is no longer associated with the publishing of it. Her one consolation, however, is the thought that the Ave Maria is a source of great enjoyment to the many readers to whom she lends it, and especially the Passionist Fathers. She hopes that the Ave Maria is enjoying a period of progress and prosperity. The French people are praying that the life of their Cardinal who was arrested on his way to Rome and...

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She will write the sketch on Father Lecordaire as soon as time permits. Father Dennis was pleased to hear from Hudson and told her that Hudson may count on his poor prayers and those of his family. She wonders if there is any use in offering her story to the Ave Maria which she wrote two years ago at Father Edward Sorin's and Mother Angela's advice. She feels as though this contains the most powerful teaching she has yet done. She cannot publish it in her country as Cardinal Manning has...

O'Meara, Kathleen, Paris, France To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1878 March 28

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending the complete manuscript of "Cyril's Vocation" instead of drawing up an outline of it that would not have given Hudson a complete story to judge. She sent it by parcel post in four parcels. If Hudson likes it, he should keep it until it can be published; if he does not like it, he should return it. Her name should be omitted if it is published. She is in disgrace with some of Hudson's readers and her fame would prejudice the readers rather than attract them. Many English...

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents Hudson's letter to her was satisfactory. She will be pleased to receive the Ave Maria, to indicate the choice of subject if Hudson wishes to have another manuscript from her. "The Battle of Connemare" may be called a children's book, but it was written for mature readers; she wished to illustrate the contrast between the Catholic priest and the selfish Protestant person. She describes the novel. The 50 pounds she indicated as the price was based on an agreement made with Hudson's...

 Item — Box CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She received both Hudson's notes by the same post, and asks him to throw the missing manuscript into the fire. She should have sent him the sketch of Mother Teresa Kelly ten days ago; the delay is caused by her having given it to a friend to copy. She is grateful to see that Hudson published her account of the miracle. One needs such consolations these days, especially in France where the devil seems to be having things his own way. There is despair at the city of Paris withdrawing all...

Miss O'Meara acknowledges the 15 £ received from Hudson. She would like Hudson to bring out the sketch of Mother Teresa before "The Battle of Connemara" as many Sisters of Mercy are waiting to see it. She is aware of the fact that arrangements may already be made. She asks Hudson to be remembered in his prayers. :: X-2-e A.L.S. 2pp. 16 mo

Scope and Contents Miss O'Meara had hoped to send Hudson a souvenir from Pere Lacordaire for Easter but her friend, P. Chocarne, who promised it to her was called away to preach at Orleans and has not returned. She asks Hudson to have a few copies of "Cyril" struck off from the Ave Maria type before it is dispersed if it is possible. She wanted to have some copies printed in London but it was too expensive, and the printers told her that once the type was set it was a trifle. 3000 men have received...

 Item — Box CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-e
Scope and Contents Miss O'Meara has been absorbed with the calamity at Notre Dame. The story of the city, it's rise and crowning trial of faith reads like an old legend and the beauty of it will be complete when September sees the school raised from its ruins to the power of the mother of God by the energy of her children in Indiana. Father Dennis dined with them and he is interested in the trial as if he witnessed the fire, and would gladly lend a hand to trundle a wheel barrow and his would not capsize...

Identifier: CHUD X-2-d
Scope and Contents She is sending Hudson her address for the next two months. He should not let her name appear at the head of the story in the Ave Maria as it will get her into trouble with Cardinal Manning. If she had been allowed to publish it in England she could have gotten any price for it, but she owes it to the United States to make this sacrifice to their feelings. Father Denis has been taken to Rome and made a great gun in the order, much to his despair. His people tried to keep him by a...

Scope and Contents She sends a manuscript on St. Terese entitled "One of God's Heroines". If the title is objectionable Hudson may change it to one more suitable to the subject therein. Refering to the remarkable mid-ocean adventures of Rev. Laurin, which serve to promote devotion to the Blessed Virgin by exposing the miraculous help obtained, effecting the rescuing of his ship, through invoking her assistance, she states that an account of this narrow escape written by Rev. Laurin would prove very...
