In accordance with Edwards' suggestion Elliott sent Isabel Shea ten letters of her father on the condition that she copy them and return. Elliott then will send the originals to Edwards. He encloses a letter from the Catholic Universe of Cleveland, dated September 7, 1886 concerning the antagonism of Rev. T.B. Bishop Frederic Baraga dies Jan. 19, 1868; his eulogy was pronounced by Father Edward Jacker and was published in the Catholic Telegraph. He is in receipt of the "Corby Memorial Number" of the "Scholastic". Two of the illustrious founders of the great university have passed to eternity leaving the great monument they reared to religion and education on a foundation apparently indestructible. It was permitted to Elliott to be honored by the friendship of the saintly founders. How few really knew or appreciated the noble qualities of Father (William) Corby.

The passing of the venerable founder of Notred Dame Father Edward Sorin, C.S.C. was suggestive; he went to his reward amid surroundings such as have been vouchsafed to none of his contemporaries. Catholics of America have but a hazy idea of what an institution Notre Dame is. Elliott suggests that Notre Dame prepare a complete description of the college with a catalogue of its relics, art treasures, manuscripts, etc. Such a work should be extensively circulated. :: XI-1-k A.L.S. 2pp.

To this is added by Elliott in his own hand a copy of an obituary notice of Father Shawe that appeared in the Detroit Catholic Vindicator, Saturday, May 14, 1853.
