As Secretary-General for the United States of the General Confraternity of Loreto, Kircher is interested in everything relating to that holiest of sanctuaries. Kircher asks Hudson if he would print the last twenty pages of "Two Celebrated Sanctuaries" containing the account of the Shrine of Loreto in pamphlet form. Since February, Kircher has registered 8,300 persons in the Confraternity and sent $780.29 to Loreto. :: X-3-j A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo.

Scope and Contents Kirk is writing on behalf of a miner who sent a nugget weighing 84 and three quarters ounces to New York to be assayed. He had been offered $1100 in gold for it, but refused. The nugget only coined him $477.76, and Kirk feels that there must be a mistake somewhere. The receipt did not show how much the nugget weighed before melting, and Kirk asks that McMaster look up the matter for him, as the miner is a poor man who trades at Kirk's store. He received Hudson's draft and used the entire amount in purchasing the reliquaries which Hudson should soon receive. Because of abuses, the authorities at Lipsanotheca have issued more stringent regulations in granting relics and thus have made it difficult for Kittell to get the desired relics. The institution is under Protestant management, but facility is given to Kittell to visit the sick and administer the sacraments. Kittell's Brother Father Ferdinand Kittell has been requested to remain at Rome to settle some business for Bishop John Tuigg and has been able to secure the relics Hudson requested.
