She received a letter from Mother Angela Gillespie while she was in Columbus establishing a hospital that is connected with the medical school. Gordon is on another one of her visiting tours. This friend, Alice Morgan, now Mrs. Prescott is only recently married. She will visit a friend next who is a nun. This leaves her alone, an old maid. Gordon's planned trip to Cincinnati was canceled because chaperon failed to appear. Mother Lucretia has written to Gordon. Bishop Peter Joseph Baltes confirmed two hundred this morning, including Judge Mulkey, his wife and niece. Mulkey built a mansion in Metropolis, Illinois, but there is no Catholic Church in town. Mother Lucretia wrote that Hudson was not well. Gordon suggests a trip to restore Hudson's health. Never will Gordon forgive Father-General Edward Sorin for depriving Hudson of the offered trip to Europe. Gordon's brother Josie returned home recently and seems much improved. Gordon read a work entitled "Secrets of the Convent and Confessional" by Mrs. Julia McNair Wright, a most vile combination of lies ever penned. She wonders if Hudson has seen and read it. Gordon is glad Hudson's trip proved benefical. It has been three years since she left St. Mary's. Gordon describes her recent trip to Mound City, Illinois, where she attended a concert by the Cairo Band. Hudson's letter is the first news she had of Mother Lucretia and Sister Eugenie's arrival home.
