He has McMahon's letter of June 20. He has already blocked out a course of six lectures according to their conversation at Notre Dame and will try to have them ready for next summer. He lists the subjects of the six lectures. He asks how they suit McMahon and for suggestions of how long and whether they are to be popular or to an audience of scholars. His duties prevented him from answering Edwards' letter. He often thinks of Notre Dame and the kind reception extended to him last summer. As to Edwards' request, Zardetti will renew his petition to Archbishop Michael Heiss. Zardetti wrote to Bishop Killian C. Flasch for a mitre. He encloses one of Cardinal Manning's letters. In reply to Onahan's suggestion to send the names of twelve delegates to the (Columbian) Catholic Congress, the Bishop asks about programmes, instructions and information. The arrangements for the Congress are impractical. A Congress should be composed only of the "Elite" - the "flower" of Catholic laymen- quality, not quantity, such as in the European Congresses.

Zaza asks for news of aFather Louis, a priest of the diocese of Metz, who recently arrived in America. He went through Covington on his way to New Orleans and Zaza loaned him 60 francs for the trip. Zaza also arrived several months ago from France; the Bishop of Covington had asked for him a long time ago. If Blanc has any Mass intentions to send him Zaza will be very grateful. The construction of a stone church, matters whose achievement was understood by no one else, joined to the difficulties of his position, brought on an illness of several weeks.
