He sends a sonnet to the Ave Maria with the request that the payment for the poem, or the poem itself if it is not used, be sent to his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania address. He did not mean to imply that his anonymously published book was objectionable but that it simply professed a negative attitude toward the Church. Egan has given the cut to the firm which does the work of The Century Company. Mr. Gill is editor of the Catholic World. He was Egan's candidate and won. Egan asks Hudson for a picturesque account of Notre Dame, which he can submit to the editor of The Manhattan, who will publish an article on Notre Dame. The Archbishop Martin John Spalding of Baltimore subscribed to the Journal yesterday and sent word to McMaster that he is pleased with the paper. The Pope's Jubilee is June 17th, according to a Roman Manual that the Archbishop brought back from Rome. The Catholic demonstration was a great affair. There is rumor among the Irish that their teacher, a married man, and another teacher an unmarried girl, have broken the Sixth Commandment in the schoolhouse where Mass is said every Sunday.
