The "Gerta" contains numerous risque things. Egan doesn't understand Eliot Ryder . He asks Hudson to call Ryder's attention to a sketch of the "Folgore", which appeared in the last issue of Fortnightly Review. Some of Ryder's points were excellent. James McMaster was surprised at Hudson's calling with Egan and pleased. McMaster had thought that Notre Dame was hostile to him. :: X-2-h A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo.

T. D. Egan, no relation of Egan's informed him that he has the Pohn edition of the "Gerto" which he will send to Hudson. He owns a Catholic Agency. Egan has a poem for Harper's, he would give it to Hudson if Harper's refuses it, but he thinks it is too intense. The Chief James A. McMaster gave one of his gentle taps at the paragraph on Father A Koning's book. If this Keeps on he will not make the jubilee. He cut some quotations out of Longfellow but hopes he has not spoiled Hudson's article. Hudson is right about R. Eliot Ryder . He has no discretion and very little taste. P. S. No doubt Hudson thinks Egan sometimes indiscreet, but hopes Hudson does not attribute this to James McMaster 's influence. The freedom Egan has in writing the editorials of the New York Freeman's -Journal make him inclined to call a spade a spade. On the Catholic Review, Egan had to be toned down because Patrick V. Egan is sending a sonnet, "The Knighthood of Today". He says that Hudson is putting new vigor into the Ave Maria. Father John Zahm called at "McGee's" office and tried to give Egan a description of Hudson, but all that Egan got was that Father Hudson is younger than Egan had imagined. He received the remittance Hudson sent, and he hopes that Hudson received the extra copies of the magazine containing his poem, "Louis de Seille" which he authorized the publishers to send to Hudson. He sends a sonnet "The Power of Prayer" for the Ave Maria. Egan was very much gratified by the dedication to himself of the sonnet written by Mr. Norris. The Illustrated Weekly continues to make slow progress and he is quite confident that eventually it will accomplish great things.
