Hill, C.P., Father Edmund, Valparaiso, Chile, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1887 August 30
Scope and Contents
They are staying with the Jesuit Fathers until the Passionist monastery is finished. The cost of building the church has been defrayed by Mrs. Edwards . When his father was a British chaplain in Valparaiso between 1852 and 1856, his family lived in Cerro Alejre a section of the city where the Passionist church has been built. Hill describes his recent journey around Cape Horn from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso. Chile is like a Catholic country. It has a zealous priesthood and a laity full of faith and devotion. The government, however, is not to be relied upon because freemasonry is the enemy here. He has written the first chapter of "A Short Cut to the True Church" and will shortly send it to Hudson. Hill submits a lyric poem. :: X-3-e A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
