Tiernan Frances C. Fisher, Salisbury, North Carolina, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1887 August 17

 Item — Box: CHUD 11
Identifier: CHUD X-3-e

Scope and Contents

Tiernan was delighted to find that she had misunderstood Hudson and that there was hope of Hudson's issuing her books. Had she understood Hudson correctly, she would not have told P.J. Kennedy that he might have them at any price. She does not know what Kennedy's decision will be because he has gone to Paris. When she said she was afraid she could not write another long story for the Ave Maria, she was not complaining of Hudson's rates of remuneration. For a religious journal they are liberal. She simply meant that she could not afford to write a novel for serial prices. With stories she always expects to sell the copyright but the market for Catholic books is so poor, that a story with a religious theme brings only the price paid for its serial publication. Tiernan hopes she may always contribute to the Ave Maria. Since she has received $450 for "Fairy Gold", there is nothing due her. :: X-3-e A.L.S. 7pp. 12mo.
