Pettier, Father A, New York, New York, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1884 June 15
Scope and Contents
After leaving Notre Dame, Bishop Pierre Marie Osouf and Pettier went to Fort Wayne and met Bishop Joseph Dwenger . They proceeded to New York where John Cardinal McCloskey, who was advised by Rome of Osouf's permission, gave him a letter of recommendation for the diocese of New York. Archbishop Michael Corrigan recognized Osouf, whom he met seven years ago at St. Sulpice in Paris. Their identity can't be questioned in New York. Their success depends on the good will of the clergy in New York. James McMaster promises the support of the New York Freeman's Journal. Pettier requests Hudson send the Ave Maria to Father F. Midon in Yokohama, Japan. :: X-2-n A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
